Melbourne Prize for Literature 2006 announced last night

Last night the Melbourne Prize for Literature, now Australia's richest literary prize, was awarded to novelist, critic and essayist Helen Garner. A second prize, the Best Writing Award, was given to novelist Christos Tsiolkas.
