The Reith Global Debate - Free To Speak?
|
What do Onora O'Neill, Wole Soyinka and Jeffrey Sachs have in common? They are all recent Reith Lecturers for the BBC. In this lively discussion these three impressive thinkers come together in one room to discuss and debate freedom of the press. Onora O'Neill explores if there actually exists an air tight case for the unconditional freedom of the press. Wole Soyinka reserves some choice comments for religious intolerance and its secular alter ego political correctness. And Jeffrey Sachs posits strong views on the indispensability of a strong global media sector. It was recorded in front of an audience of distinguished journalists, diplomats and politicians from around the globe, as part of the 75th anniversary celebrations of BBC World Service.
