Real Estates

We go to Injinoo in Far North Queensland where the traditional owners are celebrating the largest handback of freehold land in Queensland's history, while in Sydney photographer Joseph Mallard highlights the politics of geography in his latest exhibition.

The Queensland government handed back the largest slice of freehold lands in history to Aboriginal and Islander groups around Injinoo on the tip of Cape York... the culmination of 18 years of lobbying. Amongst their celebrations, Awaye! takes a look at what it means to the local people and how they intend to use it to secure their future.

In the Budal Lardil language of Mornington Island "Luuli" means, we dance and play together and next week, in Sydney, the Mornington Island Dancers did just that when they opened their national tour of "Luuli", a collaborative production with contemporary dance company, Dance North. Find out how they fuse traditional dance and songs with the music of ... Metallica?

From this year's Australian Perspecta, photographer Joseph Mallard captures the politics of geography in his latest exhibition. Documenting the changing face of inner-Sydney, "Real Estates" is a look at the price of progress.

And Totem Music began touring the European Festival circuit this week, we speak to performers Tanya Ellis and Musician Mark Atkins who say there is a strong message of maintaining cultural values in an urban environment.
