Suicide prevention

The numbers are alarming: In Australia, about 2,000 people take their own life each year -- one every five hours, a higher number than die on our roads. The Salvation Army has now launched a campaign to fight suicide with a new help line and online training on how to spot early warning signs.

On World Suicide Prevention Day 2008, Australia Talks looks into the reasons why people think about taking their lives. What is the current thinking on suicide prevention?
