Live export industry

Australia's trade in live animal exports to Egypt has resumed after it was suspended because of concerns over the treatment of animals during the transportation and slaughter process. At the same time, a senior Islamic Cleric has issued a legal opinion which raises questions over whether the transportation and slaughter adheres to Islamic principles.
Would Australian exporters see better returns if sheep and cattle were processed in Australia, or is the billion dollar live export industry just too valuable to give up?
