Music royalty fees
27/07/2007
A recent ruling by the Copyright Tribunal will see a substantial increase in the royalties paid to musicians as of August 1. Nightclubs and DJs say they can't afford the increase and that punters will bear the costs. But musicians say it's about time they were paid properly for their work.
Colourblind casting
20/07/2007
Are we seeing enough racial diversity on our stages and screens? Julie Rigg will be joining the program to discuss the racial politics of casting in the movies; using the new Australian feature Lucky Miles as an example of an Australian film that enables non-Anglo actors an opportunity to show their stuff. Joining us will be the director and two of his leading men.
We'll also hear from director and actor Lee Lewis, who has written a monograph on cross-racial casting for Currency House.
Australian circus dynasties
22/06/2007
We want to hear your memories back of the days when the circus came to town.
Do you remember the large canvas tents, the sawdust floors, wooden benches, elephants and colourful caravans? Oral historian Andrea Lemon has recorded the stories of Australia's circus families and excerpts of those stories, accompanied by photographs by Cal MacKinnon and family memorabilia, are currently on display as 'The Circus Diaries' exhibition.
It can be viewed at the Victorian Arts Centre in Melbourne until July the 15th.
