Women of Troy
|
Of all the wars ever waged in this world, it's the ancient story of the Trojan War that's most seared into the western consciousness and imagination. The story of how the Greeks sailed to Troy to claim back Helen, of how they got through the walls with the ruse of a Wooden Horse, and how they destroyed that great city. It's a story that's been told and retold for thousands of years.
A new version of the Euripides play The Women of Troy is being performed by the Sydney Theatre Company, directed by Barrie Kosky. This play tells a story about the end of the war -- after it's all over and the Greeks have won and Troy is burning -- and all the Trojan heroes, the men, are dead. Robyn Nevin is the lead.
The Women of Troy, adapted by Barrie Kosky and Tom Wright, Wharf One, Sydney, to 26 October, and at Malthouse Theatre, Melbourne, from 6 to 22 November.
