Robert Rauschenberg at the age of 82 died earlier this week. He and the likes of the artist Jasper Johns and the composer John Cage, set the scene for American modernism. It was Rauschenberg's White Paintings that inspired Cage to write his famous silent piece 4'33". John Cage paid tribute to his friend, back in 1965 - in a special lecture on Robert Rauschenberg's art and work.
