Jeffrey Crellin, principal oboe player, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra
A ballet dancer who has her pointe shoes made in London by a bloke called Ron...an oboe player who stays up into the early hours of the morning making his reeds...a potter who just loves the feel of clay.
These are some of the people we'll meet in this series. Amanda Smith speaks with a range of visual and performing artists about an object or material that each of them considers to be essential to their art.

Jeffrey Crellin is the principal oboe player with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. An important tool of his trade is the oboe reed.
Jeffrey makes his own reeds. He'll often go home from a performance and be up into the early hours of the morning fashioning a new reed for the next day's rehearsal or performance.
