Far North

'As a kid you learn to pick up the signs that tell you when your mum's depressed, irritable, in a party-mood, broke or in love. What you're trying to do is avoid surprise because otherwise you tend to get carried along as if caught up in the whirlwind of her emotions.'

With scapel-sharp precision, leading Australian writer Louis Nowra turns his attention to the intimate, odd and moving relationship between mother and teenage son. Assuming new identities, they hit the road and head for the tropics of Queensland. Bound for adventure and abandoning the past, they share a road trip which brings them much closer together, but also drives them apart.

Featuring Susie Porter as Honey, with a debut performance by Asher de Grey as Duke, the cast includes Linda Cropper, Jason Klarwein, Tina Bursill, Bill Young, Steve le Marquand and Josef Ber, with the voices of William Doughty, Leon Ewing and Sashka Koloff.

Recorded on location and in the Sydney studios of the ABC, Far North is a Judith Kampfner–Corporation for Independent Media production.

Sound engineer: Russell Stapleton
