The Native Informant

Paul Carter listens to boyhood recordings and tries to find connections to his memory and country of birth. It's history, HISstory, but what comes back is just an echo of his own questions and a suspicion that beyond the recordings, other voices have been repressed. Bird calls come to symbolise the lost inner dialect of the country. Beneath the surface, a cultural genocide is neatly obscured by the cultivated voice of British imperialism.

The Native Informant is written and spoken by Paul Carter with the voices of Helen Noonan, David Wicks and Andrew Ford.

Sound engineer: John Jacobs

Production: Andrew McLennan
