ABC Regional Production Fund Criteria

Established with National Interest Initiative funding, the ABC Regional Production Fund (RPF) provides funding for content from regional Australia for any ABC Radio platform including websites and the internet music station dig. Projects range from documentary features or series, music segments, drama, comedy, serials, short stories through to history, poetry, discussion programs or creative and community events.

Projects commissioned so far have brought a wide range of voices to the ABC. National projects initiated by the Regional Production Fund, such as the Short Story Project, the Fresh Air competition - with follow up Fresh Air Concerts in the regions - and Australian Snapshots, have provided opportunities for many regional listeners and content providers while also promoting the ABC brand in regional areas.

To be commissioned, RPF applications must meet the following criteria:

1. The project must deliver a benefit to regional Australian communities in one of the following ways:

a. By commissioning content from people living in regional areas eg radio producers, writers, musicians, composers, poets, online content producers, sound engineers and event organisers.

b. By ABC Radio outlets identifying potential content with a distinct regional focus and seeking to use RPF funding to produce programming to showcase regional events or investigate regional issues of national interest. ["Above the line costs" only will be covered by the RPF].

2. Regional areas to include Hobart and Darwin, and those places deemed regional for government assistance and services. Canberra/ACT is not deemed a regional centre.

3. All projects are to generate innovative content suitable for one of ABC Radio's platforms.

Accountability
Access to the RPF requires strict accountability for the projects commissioned.

A potential broadcast/completion date for all projects is to be submitted at the point of commissioning and a specific production delivery schedule is to be agreed with external providers prior to commissioning. If for any reason, projects are not delivered according to the agreed schedule or contractual arrangements, external contractors must make the ABC aware of potential problems before they occur and take the appropriate steps to rectify them.

All communication with external producers regarding contractual requirements must be supported by full written documentation.
