Severe thunderstorm warning

TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST

CANCELLATION SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING
Issued at 4:31 pm Thursday, 8 January 2009.
Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in NSW and the ACT.
The immediate threat of severe thunderstorms has passed, but the situation will
continue to be monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary.
A severe thunderstorm brought heavy rain to Scone earlier this afternoon. A
total of 40.0 mm was recorded at Scone Airport, with 38.8 mm falling the 24
minutes between 2:50 and 3:14 pm.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Keep clear of fallen power lines.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES [NSW and ACT] on 132
500.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's
website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 218. The Bureau and State Emergency
Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

Issued at 4:00 pm EDT on Thursday 8 January 2009

Synoptic situation
S'ly change was at Coffs Harbour at 445pm, and is expected to move northwards
through the Far North Coast this evening and overnight.

Strong Wind Warning
For the Mid North Coast, Hunter Coast, Sydney Coast, Illawarra and South Coasts
From Gabo Island to Wooli

S/SE winds 20/30 knots, tending S/SW 25/33 knots south of Green Cape. Wind south
of Norah Head easing below 25 knots overnight and remainder by early Friday
afternoon. Seas 2 to 3 metres, abating in the south overnight and remainder by
early Friday afternoon. Swell 1 to 2 metres.

Strong Wind Warning
For the Far North Coast From Wooli to Point Danger

S/SE winds increasing to 25/33 knots behind the change this evening and
overnight. Seas rising 2 to 3 metres. Swell to 1.5 metres.

The next warning will be issued by 11 pm Thursday.

Please be aware
Wind gusts can be a further 40 percent stronger than the averages given here,
and maximum waves may be up to twice the height.

TOTAL FIRE BAN

The Commissioner, NSW Rural Fire Service will TOTALLY BAN THE LIGHTING OF FIRES
until midnight tonight [Thursday 8th January] in the following NSW Fire Areas:

Lower Central West Plains,
Eastern Riverina
