Qantas shares surge as British Airways merger talks commence

Shares in the national carrier Qantas rose today after the airline issued a statement overnight revealing it was in advanced merger talks with British Airways. Qantas shares surged almost 10 per cent in early trade before closing up at 4.4 per cent.
