Kalgoorlie swells for Diggers and Dealers

Posted July 30, 2010 13:09:00

The Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce and Industry is confident the city will be able to cope as the Diggers and Dealers forum continues to grow.

A record 2,500 delegates are expected to attend the three-day mining event, which starts on Monday.

Accommodation across the city has been fully booked for some time, with an increased number of visitors staying with locals.

Chamber president Ron Mosby says more residents are taking advantage of the opportunity each year.

"So far, the local accommodation factor of people actually moving out of their homes or actually taking people in their homes has been a growing occurrence," he said.

"People have found it's something they like to do, not just for the financial side but the opportunity to welcome people and give them that opportunity to see Kalgoorlie-Boulder, maybe for the first time."
