Plans afoot for $1m Parkes museum

Posted October 7, 2008 13:01:00

Detailed plans are being drawn up for a museum complex worth about $1 million in the Parkes Shire.

Ken Keith, who has been a councillor for more than two decades, will today seek re-election as the shire's mayor.

Cr Keith says progressing plans for the new Henry Parkes Centre is a top priority.

"It really combines the historical society's museum collection plus their museum collection of antique machinery," he said.

"We're also looking at including the motor museum in the complex as well.

"It's not a cheap project to do, but it's one that the community needs to get finalised and would like to see put to bed."

Cr Keith says finishing touches are now being added to plans.

"The plans have been drawn up and all the different bodies have agreed to the layout of the site," he said.

"The architect is now drawing up the detailed plans so that we can send them out for tender and know where we go from there."
