Australian coach Ricky Stuart and selectors will today announce a 24-man Kangaroos squad for the rugby league World Cup, with a number of Manly players moving into contention for a call-up to the international arena.
After naming a 40-man squad in August, the squad will be trimmed with the biggest surprises tipped to be coming from the Sea Eagles after their 40-0 mauling of Melbourne in Sunday's grand final.
Prop Brent Kite is considered a certainty to be included after claiming the Clive Churchill Medal against the Storm while half-back Matt Orford put forward his case after a pivotal performance and an endorsement by coach Des Hasler.
Both Kite and Orford were overlooked by New South Wales selectors for this year's State of Origin series.
The biggest surprises could come from Manly wingers David Williams or Michael Robertson if selectors opt for more genuine options out wide after being spoilt by numerous options in the centres and full-back position.
Backrowers Glenn Stewart and Anthony Watmough will also be in line for Test honours.
Australia will defend the world title it has held since 1975, kicking off their campaign against New Zealand on October the 26th at the Sydney Football Stadium.
The Kangaroos will play England in Melbourne early next month and Papua New Guinea in Townsville in their final pool match on November 9.
