Toowoomba councillor dies

Posted October 6, 2008 15:00:00

Toowoomba regional councillor Ian Orford has died after collapsing at his home on the weekend.

The 67-year-old spokesman for council's planning and development portfolio died yesterday.

Mayor Peter Taylor says it is devastating news his family, council and the community.

"He was a great contributor, outstanding contributor, not just on the council, but his own business, his own family, a lot of community organisations that he'd been very strongly involved in," he said.

"A lot of personal friends, people that he knew and helped.

"He's just a great person and a great contributor to the community. So we're going to miss him. He's a great fellow, Ian Orford."
