Lachlan Shire begins water restrictions

Level one water restrictions have been introduced across the Lachlan Shire, in central western New South Wales, in a bid to curb rising demand.
The restrictions, for residents connected to town water supplies, came into effect on Sunday.
A council report says the volume of water processed in the shire's filtration plants has doubled since July.
The general manager of the Lachlan council, George Cowan, says the restrictions will hopefully cut usage.
"So residents will be asked to manage their consumption in accordance with the restrictions that have been placed on the council from State Water in terms of access to urban water supplies," he said.
"I think we're running at a similar level to last year which is about 70 per cent of allocation. So we've introduced the restrictions to make sure we manage within those limits."
Meanwhile, Des Manwaring has been re-elected as the shire's mayor.
