Eight injured in accidents

Posted October 6, 2008 08:24:00

Eight people have been injured in two crashes on western Victorian roads overnight.

Police are investigating a crash on the Western Highway near Ballarat, which left a 23-year-old Avoca woman in a critical condition.

Police say two cars travelling in the same direction collided about 11:00pm (AEDT) last night.

One of the cars ran off the road and overturned.

Senior Sergeant Craig Dooley says police believe the occupants of the two cars know each other and were involved in a dispute earlier in the night.

"As a result of that the second car may have collided with the first car and forced it into the ditch," he said.

The woman was flown to hospital in Melbourne and three men in the car with her were treated for less serious injuries.

Police have interviewed three people about the crash but have not laid any charges.

Earlier in the night, four people were involved in a smash on the Henty Highway, north of Portland.

Two people are being treated in a Melbourne hospital and two in Hamilton.
