Tennis champ emerges from Paralympic retirement

Posted September 5, 2008 14:28:00

Australian women's wheelchair tennis star, Daniele di Toro, has reversed her decision to retire in order to compete at the Beijing Paralympic Games this month.

Di Toro called it quits after Athens 2004, citing a loss of passion and fulfilment in the sport she had played since her early teenage years.

But Di Toro believes she has what it takes to challenge the dominance of Dutch tennis star Esther Vergeer.

"Before I finished, I was hating [tennis]," she told the Australian Paralympic Committee website.

"I forgot about the joy.

"I have never had to really work my butt off to make a team."
