Angry cyclist stabs woman in Dianella

Posted September 5, 2008 14:01:00

A 56-year-old woman from Dianella has been repeatedly stabbed after confronting a cyclist for riding too fast.

Police say the male rider, believed to be aged between 16 and 20, attacked the woman on Light Street about 6.30am.

He then left the area on his push bike.

Up to 40 police officers are expected to conduct a grid search of the area to look for the weapon, believed to be a hunting knife.

Detective Senior Sgt Nick Fucile described the attack as vicious and cowardly.

He says the injuries could have been even worse if a doctor nearby had not stopped to help.

"She's in a stable condition but she's got some serious injuries to her hand and her arm," he said.

"She's in Royal Perth Hospital awaiting a neurosurgeon to check her injuries and get her into surgery as soon as she can get in."
