Police to target rail station crime

Posted September 5, 2008 13:25:00

A police operation targeting railways stations over the next three months starts in Sydney, Wollongong and Newcastle on Sunday.

Operation Vision Four will see the Police Commuter Crime Unit and RailCorp transit officers target crime and antisocial behaviour on and around trains.

Assistant Police Commissioner Frank Mennilli says the previous operation Vision 3 resulted in 566 offenders arrested on more than 600 charges.

"The whole operation is intelligence driven and it also gives us the capability for a fast response, so if we find that there is a need to attend down the line towards the Illawarra, then that will be done," he said.
