The firefighters' union says minimum manned fire stations in the country could be one condition sacrificed under a new ruling by the Industrial Relations Commission (IRC).

Firefighters were engaged in a pay and conditions dispute with the New South Wales Government, with the IRC recommending a compromise pay rise of 4 per cent from next year.

A spokesman for the Fire Brigade Employees Union, Darin Sullivan, says the ruling could also mean that some country stations are not manned at all

"The fire brigade put forward a proposal to not have to backfill fire stations, we lost that, the fire brigade won that judgment and so now it it is yet to be seen how the department plan to use that," he said.
