Hope for police charity bike ride to get big turnout

Posted September 5, 2008 13:00:00

Western Australia's first ever police charity bike ride will start on Sunday, and wheatbelt police are hoping hundreds of families will get involved.

The Commissioner's Mountain Bike Challenge will be held along the Kep Track for the first time this Fathers Day, with all money raised going to Camp Quality.

Thirty officers will complete the full 75 kilometre ride from Northam to Perth, but there are shorter routes planned along the way so that all riders can end up in Mundaring for a barbecue by early afternoon.

Senior Sergeant Greg McDonald says there is still time for people to sign up on the police service website.

"The idea is that this is going to be the first of what we anticipate is going be an annual event, so it's a little bit of a trial to see how we go with it, but we believe the response has been really good, and we expect in the future that this will become an annual event," he said.
