Bowler to push for mining approvals process review

Posted September 5, 2008 13:00:00

The independent candidate for Kalgoorlie, John Bowler, has promised to lobby for a review of the approvals process for mining and exploration if he is elected in tomorrow's state election.

The former labour resources minister says mining and exploration companies are faced with an over complicated approvals process.

Mr Bowler says companies are moving to other states because they are frustrated about the delays and complexities of Western Australia's approvals process.

"People want proper planning and people want proper environmental controls, but we're having green tape and red tape to the point of constriction, to the point the industry just can't operate and it now takes months and months to get approvals for what took two or three weeks," he said.
