WAFF urges collaborative approach to beef issues

Posted September 5, 2008 11:47:00

Western Australia's largest farming lobby group says any initiatives to investigate the beef industry need to be collaborative.

The WA Meat Industry Authority's first Beef Stocktake Committee meeting has outlined plans to identify constraints on the supply chain.

Meanwhile, the Liberal Party has announced it will establish an independent inquiry to investigate the supply chain should it win office.

The WA Farmers Federation's (WAFF) Michael Campbell says both initiatives working together could solve the needs of beef producers.

"We need to find a way of the grower being able to get paid more for his money, so the easy thing is to put it up at the retail level and you pass that back down to the produce, but it doesn't always seem to work like that and it's got to be figured out some way how we can get about $1.50 a kilo more for our product," he said.
