Gustav delays PGA start in St Louis

Posted September 5, 2008 10:40:00

Heavy rains brought by the remnants of Hurricane Gustav have forced the first round of USPGA Tour event in St Louis to be postponed.

Officials say there should be no problem playing 36 holes on Saturday night because of the small 69-man field.

Meanwhile in Switzerland, 19-year-old Northern Ireland golfer Rory McIlroy is the outright leader after the first round of the European Masters.

He shot an 8-under-par opening round of 63.

He is three strokes clear of three players tied for second at five-under, while Brett Rumford is the best placed Australian at 4-under.
