A 57-year-old Scottish woman will spend at least six years in a West Australian jail for importing heroin with an estimated street value of up to $6 million.

Evelyn George was arrested at Perth International airport after customs officers found two kilograms of the drug hidden in a false bottom of her suitcase.

The District Court was told George had been living in Goa in India and agreed to carry the drugs when she found herself in financial difficulties because of health problems.

George was sentenced to 11 years with an order she serve at least six before being released.
