Governments urged to unite on land availability

Posted September 4, 2008 14:15:00

A Gold Coast development body says all levels of government need to work together on issues like land availability.

The Urban Development Institute has welcomed the cut in official interest rates announced by the Reserve Bank.

Gold Coast branch president Col Dutton says the city continues to attract new residents.

"Population on the coast increases around 18,000 people per year and they need the space to grow," he said.

"We believe that has to come at an affordable price and the amount of land that is available and also the charges that are put into land that becomes available are two major issues that affect the affordability of people getting into new homes."
