Political parties back police radio network extension

Posted September 4, 2008 09:45:00

Police have secured support from both major political parties to extend their digital radio network from Perth to some regional centres.

The Perth network uses digital technology to make communication more secure and cannot be tapped by scanners.

Currently the regions rely on radio towers which are old and frequently break down.

Police plan to expand the network and upgrade some of the towers to Dunsborough, Northam and Lancelin at a cost of $30 million.
