Councillor calls for more Bomaderry police

Shoalhaven councillor Gareth Ward has launched a petition calling for greater police resources in Bomaderry.

The petition was launched while the New South Wales Opposition's police spokesman, Mike Gallacher, visited Bomaderry yesterday to hear concerns from residents over antisocial behaviour and violence in the area.

They also called for a 24-hour police station at Bomaderry.

Mr Gallacher says there is also concern that Shoalhaven council is having to take on extra responsibilities in law enforcement.

"What we're trying to do is to focus council's mind towards the fact that so much money is starting to be taken away from ratepayers focus, away from parks, lights, roads, water, and are now starting to be moved across to law enforcement," he said.

"The fact is that many ratepayers don't want the money going there. They want the State Government to hold up its responsibility in relation to law and order, and the local government to start looking after its problems."
