Swans snare home final

Posted August 30, 2008 22:39:00

Sydney has secured a home AFL final with a 17.12 (114) to 6.17 (53) demolition of Brisbane at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The Swans were never troubled by a Lions outfit already thinking of next year after a disappointing end to the season.

Once a top-four prospect, the Lions wilted as the season went on and finished in 10th position.

In contrast the Swans could finish as high as fifth and will play either St Kilda or North Melbourne in next weekend's qualifying finals, depending on the result of tomorrow's Saints-Bombers encounter at Docklands.

Jarrad McVeigh (28 touches), Jude Bolton, Amon Buchanan and Nick Malceski (27 apiece) feasted on a demoralised Lions outfit, which only had Daniel Bradshaw as a multiple goal kicker.

Jonathan Brown was kept goalless by a well-marshalled Swans defence.

Jarred Moore and Patrick Veszpremi booted four goals each for the Swans.
