Death toll rises from Indian floods

More than 60 people have been killed in monsoon rains in India as floodwaters continue to rise.

Two million people have been forced to seek refuge in makeshift camps in the impoverished northern state of Bihar.

The Indian army and non-government organisations are working together in what is being described as the biggest flood rescue operation in India in more than 50 years.

Two million people have been forced out of their homes by the waters of the swollen Kosi river flowing down from Nepal.

The Indian Prime Minister says the floods are a "national calamity" and is promising $240 million worth of aid.

Many of those trapped by the floodwaters are desperate for food and with more heavy monsoonal rain forecast for the region, time is running out for aid supplies to reach those in need.
