Greens pressure Ferguson to reveal business emissions plan

Posted August 29, 2008 17:44:00

The Greens are demanding to know what plan Federal Resources Minister Martin Ferguson is putting to business groups about emissions trading.

Mr Ferguson is meeting with some of the biggest carbon emitters in Australia who have suggested they might move offshore or scale back production because of a trading scheme.

Mr Ferguson's spokesman says it is important that industry work cooperatively with the Government to reach a consensus.

But Greens Senator Christine Milne says people should be told what Mr Ferguson is offering.

"What we want from Minister Ferguson is what he's circulated to all the big emitters today," she said.

"We want to see his softened proposal for them as far as the emissions trading system is concerned and we want to know whether [Water Minister] Penny Wong ticked off on him circulating a document which undermines her position."
