Five Australian Air Force and US National Guard jets will fly over Sydney Harbour this afternoon.

The two Australian F/A-18 Hornet jets and three American F-15C Eagle aircraft will conduct training activities during the flights to and from Newcastle's Williamtown Air Base.

The jets will enter Sydney near Watson's Bay and will track along the Harbour at approximately 700 kilometres an hour.

The formation will fly at 1,000 feet over water between Watson's Bay and the Harbour Bridge.

The Defence Department says the flyover will take place between 2:15pm and 2:35pm (AEST).
