Fremantle midfielder Des Headland says he hopes Jeff Farmer plays another year in the AFL.

The out-of-contract forward could end his AFL career stranded on 249 games, with speculation tonight's match against Collingwood could be his last.

Several of his team-mates have publicly stated they want Farmer to play on next year and Headland has described him as a role model.

"Personally I hope Jeff does stay on, I'm good mates with him and he's been real good to me, helping me around and when I first came back," he said.

"I see him as a role model with all the boys, not just the Aboriginal boys, especially around the training track.

"Hopefully things can work out for him and he can play on next year."
