Brother jailed over sister stabbing

Posted August 28, 2008 14:16:00

A 47-year-old Aurukun man has been sentenced to three years in jail after pleading guilty in the District Court in Cairns, in far north Queensland, to stabbing his sister.

Smithy Michael Kepple was charged with unlawful wounding after attacking his sister at a house in Coen in March this year.

The court heard police found the unconscious woman covered in blood in the front yard, with wounds to the face and chest.

Kepple had been drinking with friends at the house before arguing with his sister.

While sentencing him today, judge Julie Dick said she considered his extensive police record before passing sentence.

Kepple also received a two year sentence on another charge of armed burglary, to be served concurrently.

He will be eligible for parole in six months.
