Teen to face trial accused of murdering mum

Posted August 28, 2008 13:00:00

A Gold Coast teenager accused of murdering her mother and attempting to murder her father is to stand trial.

A Southport magistrate today committed Kaihana Hussain, 18, to face a Supreme Court jury.

Shaheeda Yasmine Hussain was killed in the family's Southport unit in October 2006 and Dr Muhammad Hussain was wounded.

The committal hearing had heard of family tensions over the teenager's boyfriend and her threats to convert to Christianity.

The defence argued Dr Hussain's evidence was too unreliable for a jury to convict his daughter.

The magistrate said the prosecution case has many weaknesses, but there is evidence an offence has been committed.

No plea has been entered.
