Union threatens more Boral industrial unrest

The union representing workers who have lost their jobs at Boral's timber mill at Walcha has threatened further industrial action if the company is not forced to relinquish its logging contract with the New South Wales Government.
Major stakeholders will meet again today to discuss Boral's plans to close the mill, or to lease it out.
The secretary of the forestry division of the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union, Craig Smith, says it will not rule out industrial action at Boral sites throughout NSW if the company keeps its logging rights.
Mr Smith says the company's offer to lease out the Walcha mill is little more than a political stunt.
"They know that it doesn't have legs. They know there won't be any sort of interest in [the] process they've put out to lease the mill for two years," he said.
"We understand it's no more than a stunt on their part."
