Community college stage one opens

Posted August 28, 2008 11:31:00

The first stage of Mount Barker's new $20 million community college has officially opened.

The 'one community, one college' project involves consolidating the town's education facilities by building a new primary school on the existing high school site.

South-West MLC Matt Benson says a new library has been built, as well as 11 new classrooms to accommodate students from years four to seven.

Mr Benson says the second stage of the project, which involves relocating kindergarten to year three students, is expected to be completed by 2009.

"The community had quite an enthusiastic involvement in the project. The facilities, the new ones are quite outstanding and we believe it's going to create a vibrant school for future generations," he said.
