Cycle crash inquest told of driver's poor sight

An inquest into the death of a cyclist in northern Victoria has heard the driver who struck him had vision problems.
The 20-year-old Shepparton victim, Scott Peoples, was riding on the Maroondah Highway near Merton in December 2006, when he was hit from behind by a four-wheel drive.
He died at the scene.
An inquest into his death has heard the 73-year-old driver, Kenneth Charles Blay, suffered a stroke three years earlier and was told by a doctor not to drive because of vision loss.
Traffic medicine specialist Dr Morris Odell told the inquest, Mr Blay could not see out the left side of his eyes and there is no reason to look any further for the cause of the collision.
The court also heard Mr Blay hit another cyclist from behind in 2004, with the rider suffering a broken leg.
The inquest has been adjourned until next month.
