Liberals pledge $20m for new Albany school

Posted August 28, 2008 10:32:00

The Liberal Party has made an election commitment to spend up to $20 million rebuilding Albany's Yakamia Primary School.

Last week, Labor committed $3 million to upgrading the school.

But the Liberal candidate for Albany, Andrew Partington, says the school is more than 30-years-old and needs replacing.

Mr Partington will not say exactly how much the project will cost or where the new facility will be built.

"The issue of access does not go away if you rebuild the school on the existing site," he said.

"So in government, we would look at that as quickly as possible, but my view is, logically, we would look for a new site heading out through the Yakamia development strip."

Mr Partington says the school would be completed in the first term of government.
