Rockhampton council to review car use

Posted August 28, 2008 09:23:00

The Rockhampton Regional Council has unanimously supported a review of the council's cars to help save the environment.

The idea was put forward by councillor Stephen Schwarten to help reduce the impact the council's 600 cars had on the environment.

The council gave its unanimous support for the idea at this week's council meeting and Cr Schwarten says it is important to have more cost effective and environmentally friendly cars.

"It would save council money on fuel for starters," he said.

"If we've got vehicles that are using less fuel, there's an obvious saving in there.

"It's a saving for the environment as well because less emissions would be less carbon dioxide in the air."
