Police scour remains of fatal house fire

New South Wales Police and fire investigators are scouring the remains of a burnt out house at Nelson Bay, on the state's north coast, following the death of a two-year-old.
Police say two adults were at home with their two teenage children and the three grandchildren when the fire started early this morning.
When fire crews arrived about 1.30am (AEST) the two-storey home was well alight.
The two adults and four of the children managed to escape, but a two-year-old girl died in the house.
Little remains of the second level of the Nelson Bay home, with walls and the roof collapsing as fire crews work to put out the blaze.
Inspector Dave Matthews from Port Stephens Local Area Command says it is too early to speculate where the two-year-old was when the fire broke out.
"I'm not prepared to comment on that other than to say that NSW Police crime scene investigators will prepare a report for the coroner," he said.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are continuing.
