Posted August 27, 2008 09:38:00

A man from Portland was killed in a head-on smash with a truck in western Victoria last night.

Police say the man's car collided with the truck on the Maroona-Glenthompson Road, south of Ararat, and then hit a tree.

The driver of the car, aged in his 50s, died and his 19-year-old passenger was flown to Melbourne for treatment.

The passenger is now in a stable condition.

The truck driver was not injured.
