Sharpe recalled to replace Vickerman

Posted August 24, 2008 23:04:00

Australia coach Robbie Deans has called up lock Nathan Sharpe to replace the injured Dan Vickerman ahead of the Wallabies' Tri-Nations clash with South Africa in Johannesburg this weekend.

"We've been in contact with Nathan and he'll come across," Deans told reporters at the team hotel on Sunday.

"I'm not sure what the flight details are yet but hopefully he'll get here as soon as he can."

Vickerman suffered a shoulder injury at the end of the first half of Australia's 27-15 victory over South Africa in Durban on Saturday.

A similar shoulder injury has ruled out centre Berrick Barnes, though Deans said he would be replaced from within the current 28-man squad.

Both players' injuries will be assessed when the Wallabies return to Australia to begin preparations for the series decider against New Zealand in Brisbane on September 13.

The All Blacks lead the standings with 14 points, Australia are second with 13 and the Springboks are third with five.
