Council bolsters efforts to keep doctor

Posted August 22, 2008 13:03:00

The Lachlan council is to spend a further $10,000 in a bid to retain one of the shire's doctors.

The council has just completed a new four bedroom house for Dr Khaleb Bardawil in Lake Cargelligo.

The council's general manager, George Cowan, says the house cost about $450,000 to build.

He says councillors have now voted to spend more money partly furnishing the house.

"You can't have a community without a doctor. It's as critical as that and council recognises that and has stepped up to the mark," he said.

"[The council] plays a pretty high profile role in recruiting the doctors and in helping to keep them here."
