Council moratorium delays bores decision

Posted August 21, 2008 07:17:00

A moratorium placed on the state's councils because of next month's local government elections has stalled any decision on drilling additional water bores in Ivanhoe.

Residents have been relying on emergency water bores for more than two years.

In May, the New South Wales Government agreed to give the Central Darling Shire a $200,000 grant to drill the bores, provided the council could match the contribution.

Mayor Ray Longfellow says this week's council meeting determined that no decision on matching the grant could be made because of the council's legal obligation to the moratorium.
