Brisbane will host Australia's crucial World Cup qualifying match against Qatar on October 15, officials said.

The match is the Socceroos' first home game in round 4 of their 2010 Asian World Cup qualifiers. The squad is grouped with Qatar, Bahrain, Uzbekistan and Japan.

Football Federation Australia chief executive Ben Buckley said he was confident Brisbane football fans would back the Socceroos.

"Playing in the FIFA World Cup is an ambition shared by the entire nation and we're looking forward to a full house and vocal support from Queenslanders to help the players on the journey to South Africa," he said.

The Socceroos drew 2-2 with South Africa in a friendly in London on Wednesday morning.

Coach Pim Verbeek said his side was on target for the 2010 World Cup following the match.

"We will have to work hard to achieve qualification, but playing in the FIFA World Cup is something every player wants to do and they know what they need to do to get there," he said.

The Socceroos play The Netherlands on September 6 and face Uzbekistan in Tashkent in their World Cup qualifier on September 10.

The team needs to finish in the top two in their group to earn direct World Cup qualification.
